Roy, Jamini
(15 abr. 1887, Baliatore, India–24 abr. 1972, Calcuta).

Artista indio. A fines de la década de 1920 y comienzos de la de 1930, desechó su formación académica para desarrollar, en cambio, un estilo lineal, decorativo y colorido basado en las tradiciones populares bengalíes. Durante las décadas de 1930 y 1940, la popularidad de sus pinturas representó la transición, entre las enseñanzas académicas iniciales del arte indio moderno, y las nuevas predilecciones por lo autóctono. Los temas de Roy abarcaban desde el Ramayana hasta Cristo, y de ahí, a los retratos de personajes contemporáneos como Mahatma Gandhi. Es uno de los artistas indios más conocidos del s. XX.
